BIL 

Founded in 1856, Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL) is the oldest multi-business bank in Luxembourg. It issued its first banknotes in the year it was created and retained this privilege until the introduction of the Euro. The bank has always played an active role in the main stages of Luxembourg’s economic development. 


BIL is a top three bank in Luxembourg in terms of market share and is recognized as systemically important by the European Central Bank. Currently, BIL has established an international service network that connects China (Beijing and the Greater Bay Area), Luxembourg and Switzerland.


Legend Holdings held 89.98% equity interest in BIL. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is also a shareholder of BIL. 


At the end of June 2023, BIL’s ratings by both Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s remained unchanged at A2/ Stable/P-1 and A-/Stable/A-2, respectively.

Marcel Leyers

Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Banque Internationale à Luxembourg, S.A.

Marcel Leyers has been the Chief Executive Officer of Banque Internationale à Luxembourg, S.A. (BIL) and the Chairman of the Management Board/Executive Committee since May 2019. He was also appointed to BIL’s Board of Directors in June 2019 and represents BIL on various other Boards of Directors of BIL Group entities.

Prior to taking up his current position, Marcel Leyers was a Member of BIL’s Management Board/Executive Committee, where he was in charge of the Corporate & Institutional Banking department and of the development of services for the Luxembourgish market across all business lines.

Marcel Leyers joined BIL in 1983 and held various senior management positions in the Retail and Corporate Banking departments, including Head of Corporate Banking and Small and Medium Businesses & Public Institutions (SMB&PI).

Marcel Leyers is a Luxembourgish national and holds a graduate diploma in Management from the Department of Law and Economics of the University of Luxembourg.
